TECH SUPPORT AND DEVELOPER ROLE
Full-time (part-time negotiable)
Schwartz Media is seeking a passionate technical support person and web developer to join our team in Carlton, Melbourne. Ideally the role is full-time (part-time negotiable), and the successful applicant will have an essential role in supporting, maintaining and developing the hardware and software behind Australia’s leading independent media company.
This is a great opportunity to expand your career as a support engineer while working with quality media brands. You will provide critical hardware and software support and advice to a team of dedicated journalists, editors and content creators. You’ll work on improving the infrastructure required for a subscription-based company that delivers important content to a passionate readership.
Additionally, you will learn and work on the software and web technology required to keep a media company running. You will work within the software development team as we design and develop a range of in-house and customer-facing digital tools that are made and managed by Schwartz Media.
The role is ideal for someone who is keen to own the technical support side of IT software and hardware, and who also wants to work with and improve their web development and coding skills. The right candidate will have room to grow the role and have a big impact as Schwartz Media expands.
Salary negotiable based on experience.

About the role
The support side of the role covers a wide variety of technologies, duties and responsibilities, such as:
Installing and configuring computer hardware, systems, networks, printers and scanners, including Mac computers and NAS network equipment;
Monitoring and maintaining computer systems and networks, as well as software accounts, including Office 365, Adobe Creative Cloud, G Suite and Google Drive;
Managing secure user accounts and access across the organisation, using tools such as LastPass;
Responding in a timely manner to service issues and requests for technical support for in-office software and hardware and documenting these processes;
Responding to and triaging issues and requests from the subscriptions team;
Repairing and replacing equipment as necessary; and
Testing new technology and evaluating new hardware and software opportunities.
From a software-development perspective, you’ll be able to work on and gain skills in:
UI/UX layout and design;
HTML and CSS/Less web and email design and development;
PHP and a range of CMSs, including Drupal 7/8;
Databases, primarily SQL; and
The development toolchain used at Schwartz, including Git, GitLab CI/CD, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes and more.
You should have:
Strong interpersonal and customer service abilities;
Current working knowledge of Apple OSX software, and of hardware generally;
Sound attention to detail and problem solving abilities;
Sound written and verbal communication skills;
Ability to work effectively as a team player and autonomously;
Security-focused mindset; and
An interest in media and publishing, and a desire to work with a team producing high quality journalistic content.
